Day 2 at Lake Placid

The second day we woke up to more rain. The boy at the front desk told us the weather was going to get worse throughout the day. Maura and I decided to set out for a run while Donnie and Bob felt the hot tub was a better way to start the day. Armed with bottles and power bars Maura and I started off on our run. Five minutes into the run the sky cleared and the sun started to peak out. Even Bob and Donnie decided to venture out on the run course after the sun was shining. We ran the course (one loop) plus a little extra....It is a beautiful place to run but on race day I think the run will feel lonely and long!
Next up the SWIM...This is the hardest part of a triathlon for me. The water in Mirror Lake is perfect. Almost too perfect. You can see a lot of things you may not want to see. It also is so deep, what is really down at the bottom of that lake? The water tastes like drinking water and there is a yellow cable five feet down which runs the entire length of the lake. I believe this has to be one of the nicest places to swim. We swam one loop of the swim course and I realized I need to spend more time in the pool!
Donnie drove us home after the swim. This was an awesome training weekend. Thank you Maura, Donnie and Bob.

Lake Placid

Wow... We finally made the trip to Lake Placid and rode the course. When we woke up today the roads were wet and thunderstorms were in the forecast. We set out on the the bike course around 8:45am. Our first loop was filled with many stops for water and bathroom breaks...however we were pleasantly surprised with the course. On the second loop we realized each portion seemed a little longer and each hill was a little steeper. What a incredible feeling to finish the course...112 miles! Now we stopped back at the hotel to change for the run. We ran for 40 minutes maybe more? When I turned off my heart rate monitor 8 hours and 59 minutes had gone by with a total of 4000 calories burned. Overall I was trilled with how the day played out. I felt that my nutrition and hydration plan had worked. There still is some work to do but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. As for tomorrow we will swim and run the course.
